The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Eastern Regional team has been adjudged as the best in terms of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), active membership registration for the year 2024.
The region accomplished 2, 033,367 out of its Annual target of 2,051,339, representing 99.12 percent, occupying the number one position on the league table.
The NHIA Director in charge of Membership and Regional Operations (MRO), Directorate, Mr. Oti Frempong pronounced the remarkable achievement during the Region’s 2024 Annual Performance Review Meeting, held in Koforidua.
“The Authority continues to make impressive strides in its quest to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to all Ghanaians. As a result, it is no mean achievement that the Eastern Region has emerged as the top performer in the nation in terms of active membership, showcasing the region’s significant contribution to the success of the National Health Insurance Scheme.”
“The Authority has been at the forefront of delivering healthcare services to citizens through the NHIS, aiming to increase enrollment, improve service delivery, and enhance the quality of health services nationwide. Over the years, the Authority has undertaken various initiatives to increase public awareness of the Benefit Package, expand coverage, and ensure its sustainability. As a result, the active membership across the country has steadily risen with the Eastern Region leading the charge.”
Mr. Oti Frempong commended management and frontline staff for the stellar performance and inspired them to sustain the enviable position by achieving their set target for the year 2025.
The Regional Director, Mr. Eugene Opoku Afrifa stated, “A conscious effort was made to attain this success. We visited hard-to-reach communities, embarked on routine field work, vigorous mobile renewal activities and series of educational campaigns were some of the pragmatic steps we undertook.”
“One key factor which contributed to our success was dedicated and diligent staff who went beyond expectation in awareness campaigns tailored to the needs of the local population about the importance of the NHIS and its coverage, which includes both preventive and curative healthcare services. The collaborative effort with stakeholders, especially the Department of Social Welfare, traditional leaders, health workers, assembly members and other relevant organizations played a pivotal role in our success.”
Mr. Eugene Afrifa recognized the fullest cooperation of all staff and called for an enhanced team work to sustain the first position on the league table.
When he assumed office, Mr. Eugene’s administration established an award scheme to reward deserving staff, established a regional staff welfare package and constituted a research committee responsible for identifying the team’s performance shortfalls.
