Eastern Region unveils Tourism and hospitality goldmine at maiden expo

The Eastern Region is set to showcase its immense tourism and investment potential following the launch of the maiden Eastern Regional EXPO in Koforidua, an initiative designed to position the region as a leading destination for trade, tourism, and economic development.

The flagship event, dubbed Eastern EXPO, seeks to promote enterprise development, attract investment, strengthen strategic partnerships, and accelerate economic growth by providing a platform for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), public institutions, development partners, and the private sector to exhibit their products and services while forging lasting business relationships.

Held on the theme, “Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment,” the Expo places a strong spotlight on the Eastern Region’s unique tourism assets, which continue to make it one of Ghana’s most attractive destinations for leisure, adventure, and eco-tourism.

Renowned for its breathtaking natural attractions, the region boasts iconic destinations such as the cascading Boti Falls, the serene Aburi Botanical Gardens, the scenic Kwahu Mountains, and the majestic Akosombo Dam. These attractions, alongside the region’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant festivals, lush forests, and adventure tourism opportunities, and several plush hotels position the Eastern Region as a key driver of Ghana’s tourism industry.

Launching the Expo, Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey said the initiative presents a unique opportunity to showcase the region’s enormous but largely untapped potential to both local and international investors and tourists.

She noted that the success of the Expo would depend on the collective efforts of government agencies, the private sector, development partners, financial institutions, entrepreneurs, investors, and the tourism industry in unlocking new opportunities for growth.

“We are endowed with fertile agricultural lands, abundant natural resources, thriving business centres, and some of Ghana’s finest tourism attractions,” she said.

According to the Minister, the region’s strategic location, close proximity to Accra, and easy access to neighbouring regions make it an ideal hub for tourism, trade, logistics, manufacturing, and investment.

“We want to unlock these opportunities by showcasing the region’s strengths while addressing the challenges that hinder the growth of our Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs),” she added.

The maiden Eastern Regional EXPO is scheduled to take place from September 26 to October 3, 2026, at Jackson Park in Koforidua, where exhibitors, investors, tourism operators, and visitors are expected to converge to experience the rich economic and tourism potential the Eastern Region has to offer.
