Food is anything solid or liquid taken into the body to promote growth, to protect and regulate body processes. The food we eat defines how the body will work.

Taking in a well-balanced meal helps the body to update itself with the necessary energy it needs to sustain the strength of life. Taking in an unbalanced meal does not help the body to grow well.

Most of the food we eat may be helpful to the body but due to the absence of certain ingredients to provide the body with certain vital nutrients, it does not help the body to grow well and thus causing malnutrition issues which trigger other health conditions according to the study of science and nutrition

One of Ghanaians’ favourite dishes is ‘Anwamoo’ known as Braised Rice and literally as oil rice since it is cooked with oil. Anwa is the local name for oil and “emoo” is the local name for rice in Ghana.

Due to how rampant it is eaten, most people do not value it that much but ‘Anwamoo’ really has got rich health benefits and it all will depend on how you cook it.

Basically ‘Anwamoo’ is cooked with rice and oil and eaten alongside with hot pepper and a fried egg at times.

If you are eating ‘Anwamoo’, you are getting many health benefits only if you are eating alongside certain wonderful accompaniments with the food.

Anwamoo becomes of great benefit to the body when cooked with vegetables, fish, meat or egg constituent.

Let’s elaborate on the constituents of ‘anwamoo’ one after the other and see how beneficial it is.

1. Rice

The rice forms the major constituent of the dish. Rice provides carbohydrates as nutrients to the body which gives energy to the body. Most of the health benefits of rice come from the vitamins and minerals that it provides.

Rice provides the body with magnesium according to food and nutrient sciences. Magnesium is the structural component of bones that assists in hundreds of enzyme reactions involved in the synthesis of DNA and proteins and is required for proper nerve conduction and muscle contraction.

Rice Improves Colon Health

Rice contains resistant starch which may help in the formation of certain fatty acids. These fatty acids may help the colon to stay healthy and may also decrease the risk of colon cancer.

Rice Reduces Risk of Heart Disease whole grains such as brown rice, is associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease.

These are the benefits of the rice constituents in Anwamoo.

2 Oil:

When preparing anwamoo, oil is first put on heat before the rice is poured into it. This oil has gotten so many health benefits for the body.

Oils like sunflower Oil help to protect the body against heart disease by regulating the levels of ‘bad’ (LDL) cholesterol levels in check, raising the quantity of good (HDL) cholesterol.

Oil helps to Improve heart health: Oils like soyabean oil, and low erucic acid rapeseed oil, help to manage to keep cholesterol levels low since it contains essential fatty acids thus it helps prevent heart diseases.

so this makes the oil in anwamoo so beneficial and nutritious.

3 Vegetables

Anwamoo becomes of great benefit to the body when eaten with vegetables. Vegetables according to science provide the body with many nutrients which include vitamins. These vitamins help the immune system to be strong enough to fight diseases and infections that might attack the body. Vegetables such as carrots, green pepper, salad, onion, and tomatoes can be eaten with Anwamoo to gain these nutrients to help the body to grow strong.

4 Egg

The egg has essential benefits for the body. Eggs help to repair worn-out tissues in the body. The nutrients the body gain from the egg does to amazing health benefits to the body. Therefore Eating eggs with Anwamoo helps to repair worn-out tissues in the body.

5. Pepper

Pepper has been the most vegetable eaten most of the time with Anwamoo. Pepper is not just an appetizer or a decorator on the rice but it has this amazing health benefits. Pepper helps to improve blood circulation in the body system according to science. Pepper help to protect us from food poisoning. Pepper is beneficial to ulcer patients according to research. This is because pepper powder provides trace amounts of anti-oxidants and other chemicals to aid digestive issues such as healing an upset stomach, reducing intestinal gas, curing diarrhoea and acting as a natural remedy for cramps.

It is therefore clear now that, Anwamoo has mighty health benefits which should not be underrated. It all depends on the accompaniments like vegetables and eggs eaten along with.
