The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that the 2024 general elections are proceeding smoothly, with polling stations opening at 7:00 am as scheduled.

According to EC Deputy Chairman Samuel Tettey, almost all devices were functioning properly, with only a few technical issues with Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) reported in one or two locations.

Technicians were quickly deployed to address these issues, and as of the press briefing, all BVDs were operational. Tettey confirmed that all election materials and officials, including verification officers and ballot issuers, were present at their assigned polling stations. Security personnel were also deployed to ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.

Regarding party representation, Tettey noted that the two leading parties had agents present, while some minority parties did not have representation, except for the APC. Election observers from IDEG, EVOWAS , and CODEO were also present to monitor the process.

The EC has established a toll-free hotline (0800324324) for voters to report any concerns or issues.

As the polls continue until 5:00 pm, the EC urged all voters to exercise their civic duty and cast their ballots in a peaceful and orderly manner.
