In a dramatic turn of events, the Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the New Patriotic Party (NPP) victorious in seven of the disputed parliamentary constituencies.
The declarations were made by the EC’s Returning Officers at various collation centers after the re-collation process, which was mandated by a ruling from the Accra High Court.
The results confirm NPP candidates as the winners in seven fiercely contested constituencies.
In Obuasi East Constituency (Ashanti Region), Mr. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP), retained his seat. He secured 18,558 votes, narrowly defeating Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 18,539 votes. An independent candidate, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, garnered 424 votes. The declaration was made by the Returning Officer, Frederick Mensah, in Accra.
Mr. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, has been declared the winner following the re-collation exercise at the Greater Accra Regional Electoral Commission office in Ridge. Mr. Annoh-Dompreh secured 29,640 votes, while Fummey Philibert of the National Democratic Congress garnered 29,433 votes.
In the Greater Accra region, the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. Charles Forson emerged victorious, polling 18,870 votes. Ebi Bright of the NDC, who was earlier declared the winner, secured 18,815 votes, while an independent candidate, Fredrick Aniagyei, managed 229 votes.
Also in Ahafo Ano North Constituency (Ashanti Region), the re-collation saw Nana Agyemang Prempeh of the NPP securing victory. He retained the seat with a lead of 121 votes over his opponent. Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh of the NPP polled 20,353 votes while his sole contender, Kwasi Adusei of the NDC secured 20,232 votes.
The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikwei Central Constituency (Greater Accra Region), Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah was declared the winner of the constituency. Per the declaration, Mr. Boamah amassed 21,099 votes to retain his seat in Parliament, beating his sole challenger Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the NDC who got 19,368 votes.
In Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Elvis Osei Dapaah has been declared winner of the election. Mr. Dapaah polled 16,058 votes to beat Abubakar Sadiq who got 15,372 votes.
The incumbent NPP Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah has been declared the winner of the parliamentary constituency election.
Mr. Korsah amassed 46,663 votes to beat his closest challenger Christopher Beyere who got 43,429 votes. They were trailed by Donkor Moses who got 140 votes and Boyoung Maris who amassed 76 votes.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the suspension of the re-collation exercise for the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North parliamentary constituencies, citing a lack of adequate pink sheets and unresolved disputes over key election documents.
Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North were among nine constituencies identified for re-collation following a High Court ruling that mandated a review of election results due to alleged irregularities.
Challenges with Ablekuma North Re-collation
The suspension in Ablekuma North arose from the returning officer’s inability to present the full complement of the required pink sheets.
Out of the total pink sheets expected, 62 remain outstanding, making it impossible to complete the re-collation process.
Issues with Dome Kwabenya Re-collation
For Dome Kwabenya, the returning officer revealed that the pink sheets for three polling stations exist only in soft copy form.
Efforts to produce hard copies of these documents have been unsuccessful, with both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) failing to provide the necessary records.
The NPP has attributed the absence of these pink sheets to violent disruptions during the initial collation process.
Party representatives claim that their agents were assaulted, and critical documents were snatched and destroyed during the unrest.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly rejected the ongoing re-collation of results in the nine disputed constituencies.
Dr Tanko Rashid Computer, the party’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, declared that they would not accept any outcomes from the process.
“We are not going to accept it,” Dr Computer, who stormed the re-collation centre at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the EC, emphasised.
“We won’t accept every bit of things that is going to happen here. That’s the position of the party,” he told journalists at the centre.
Dr. Computer asserted that the NDC would overturn any results deemed unlawful, adding that electoral officers responsible for discrepancies would be held accountable.
“Anything that they have done here, we will overturn it,” he said. “And officers will answer questions,” he added.
