The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims that it promised to release the Provisional Voters Register within a week.
In a statement signed by Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chairman of Operations, he clarified that during the televised IPAC meeting, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, indicated that the Commission would provide political parties with the revised Provisional Voters Register (PVR) and upload it online within two weeks or earlier, but did not specify a one-week timeline.
At the recent IPAC meeting, the EC revealed that a total of 18,772,795 valid voters are expected to participate in the upcoming general elections in December. This figure includes 9,690,173 females and 9,082,622 males. Additionally, 708,282 new voters have been added to the electoral roll for the December elections.
The Commission also reported 332,110 transferred voters, 2,167 proxy voters, 32,974 applicants on the exceptions list, and 26,798 applicants on the multiples list.
During the IPAC meeting on October 1 in Accra, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa addressed concerns about errors in the voter register, noting that while some imperfections remain, the Commission has significantly addressed them.
She reassured stakeholders that such errors are common in any registration process and that the EC is actively working to correct them.
