The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified Bernard Mornah, the presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), from participating in the upcoming December elections.
In a statement released on Friday, September 20, 2024, the EC explained that following the nomination period from September 9 to September 13, 2024, it conducted a thorough review of the submitted nomination forms to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
The commission confirmed that only 13 candidates have successfully completed the nomination process and are eligible to contest in the 2024 Presidential Election. Among these, 4 candidates will run as independents, while 9 will represent political parties.
During an interview on TV3’s News Central, Mornah revealed that he received a letter from the EC indicating abnormalities in his forms. He stated that after addressing the issues, he resubmitted the corrected forms.
“We received a letter from the Electoral Commission citing about seven pages of abnormalities in our forms. I promptly sent the corrected forms back to the EC, and Mr. Kwao confirmed that they had been rectified,” Mornah explained.
Additionally, he mentioned that his lawyers, Atuguba and Associates, have reached out to the EC to inquire why they were not contacted regarding the balloting scheduled for Friday, September 13. “I have asked my lawyers to investigate how we were overlooked in the communication,” he stated.
