The Electoral Commission (EC) has reversed its directive to prevent political party agents from observing the vote transfer exercise.
The U-turn from the EC comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama accused the commission of plotting with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the upcoming general elections after a memo released on Sunday, June 2 directed district officers not to allow agents of political parties access due to some violent clashes.
However the EC at a Press Conference on Tuesday, June 4 announced the reversal of the decision indicating that the reversal was made following extensive deliberation.
The reversal is seen as a victory for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
Prior to the ban, violent clashes were reported at the EC in Ofaakor near Kasoa where three individuals including Ato Koomson, son of MP for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson sustained injuries.
