EC schedules December 30 for Kpandai Parliamentary seat rerun

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has scheduled Tuesday, December 30, 2025, for the rerun of the Kpandai Parliamentary Election.

This follows a High Court directive that nullified the results of the 2024 contest.

The announcement was contained in a press release issued on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, and signed by Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director at the Commission’s Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department. The statement confirmed that the rerun would feature only the three candidates who originally contested the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election in the constituency.

According to the EC, the decision follows the Tamale High Court ruling of November 24, 2025, which ordered a fresh election within 30 days after determining that the integrity of the previous poll had been compromised. The court had upheld a petition challenging the results, citing irregularities significant enough to materially affect the outcome.

The Commission noted that the process of confirming the vacancy was completed after receiving formal notification from Parliament. On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Clerk to Parliament wrote to the EC, officially informing the Commission of a vacant seat in the Kpandai Constituency, as required by constitutional procedure.

“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that following the ruling of the High Court… and upon receipt of a letter from the Clerk to Parliament formally notifying the Commission of the occurrence of a vacancy in the Membership of Parliament, the seat of the Constituency has become vacant,” the EC stated.

It added that arrangements are underway to deploy electoral materials, retrain officers, and activate constituency-level logistics necessary to ensure a smooth and credible rerun on December 30.

The Parliamentary Service had earlier communicated to the EC the need to initiate the by-election process after the court’s decision rendered the previous results invalid. The rerun is expected to attract significant public and political interest, given the intense national attention that has surrounded the Kpandai seat since the litigation began.

The Commission said it remains committed to delivering a transparent exercise and will provide additional details in the coming days.

The Kpandai rerun is anticipated to be one of the final major electoral activities of 2025, as political parties prepare their ground operations and mobilise supporters ahead of what is expected to be a closely monitored parliamentary contest.
