The Electoral Commission of Ghana has set Tuesday, September 30, for Tamale Central Constituency by-election, a statement from the commission has said.
The Tamale Central seat has become non-functional following the tragic death of the Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Dr. Murtala who was among the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter Z-9 crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement signed by EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Commission indicated that nominations from interested candidates will be accepted from Monday, September 8, to Wednesday, September 10, at the EC’s Tamale Metropolitan Office, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and again from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
Nomination Guidelines and Fees
Prospective candidates are required to meet the following conditions:
Nomination forms must be proposed and seconded by two registered voters from the constituency.
Each form must be endorsed by 18 additional registered voters.
Forms must be submitted in quadruple (four copies).
Two recent passport-size photographs with a red background are required.
The filing fee is set at GHS10,000, with a reduced fee of GHS7,500 for female candidates and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Nomination forms will be available for download from the Commission’s website: www.ec.gov.gh, starting August 19 through to September 10.
