The Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed that there will be a run-off on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in electoral areas that recorded ties during the just-ended district-level election.

In a presser dated January 1, the commission stated that, in accordance with the District Level Elections Regulations, 2015 (C.I. 89), there is a need to conduct a run-off election in these areas to break the ties to determine the winners in these electoral areas.

“Following the collation of results from the just ended District Level Elections, 20 Electoral Areas for Assembly Members and 41 Electoral Areas for Unit Committee Members across the country produced the same results for the contestants. As a result, there will be the need to conduct Run-off elections in these areas to break the ties to determine the winners in these Electoral Areas”, the release noted.

The release signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Michael Boadu, it highlighted that the election will take place at all polling stations in the Electoral areas where ties were recorded.

Electoral areas that recorded ties include Volta Region [Legba-Klikpko], Eastern Region [Akwamufie, Awosoase], Bono [Adantia], Bono East [Bonya], Ashanti Region [Effiduase West], Konya-Brehoma, among others.

The District Level Election took place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at various electoral areas. Some 40 districts in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions were postponed due to errors found on the ballot papers, delays in the distribution of voting materials and technical challenges.
