The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Jean Mensa has expressed heartfelt gratitude to election officials across the country for their dedication and commitment as the nation gears up for what promises to be a peaceful and credible election.
Speaking to officials on Thursday, December 5, 2024, the EC Chairperson commended staff for their hard work in the lead-up to Election Day.
“You have worked hard to ensure the successful, peaceful, and credible elections and electoral outcomes that we are about to witness. You have fought a good fight,” she remarked.
She extended her appreciation to EC directors at all levels, regional and district staff, and temporary officials, including Returning Officers, Collation Officers, and Polling Officials, emphasizing their crucial roles in ensuring orderly, transparent, and fair elections.
A Call for Excellence
Acknowledging the critical nature of their tasks, the EC Chairperson urged officials to maintain professionalism and adhere to the Commission’s core values of transparency, fairness, and integrity.
“Our responsibility is not to make anyone President or Member of Parliament but to conduct credible and efficient elections that reflect the will of the people. Let truth guide you in every action, and be fair and transparent in all your dealings,” she stated.
She also emphasized the importance of accuracy and professionalism, particularly in the handling of Pink Sheets and vote counts. “Your role as Presiding Officers is pivotal, as the outcome of the election rests heavily on the accuracy of your work at the polling stations.”
Upholding Accountability
The EC Chairperson reminded staff of their accountability, not just to the nation but also to God.
“At the end of the day, we will be answerable to God for our actions. Let us ensure that every valid vote counts and that the results truly reflect the choice of the people.”
She concluded by urging all officials to uphold the Commission’s standards to make Ghana’s elections world-class. “We trust you to deliver free, fair, and credible elections that honour the will of the people. Let us work together to uphold the integrity of our electoral system.”
As part of her closing remarks, she wished all field officers safe travels and God’s protection as they undertake their duties.
The EC will conduct an internal assessment following the elections to evaluate the performance of its staff.
