The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated an independent audit of its metering systems, acting on a direct directive from the minister for energy and green transition.

This was contained in a press release issued on March 3, 2026.

According to ECG, investigations into recent customer complaints regarding high bills have commenced.

ECG noted that the independent audit has been activated “in line with the Honourable Minister for Energy and Green Transition’s directive.”

The company stated that it has a robust infrastructure, with its meter testing laboratory being “state-of-the-art” and comparable to leading global facilities; the company stopped short of dismissing customer concerns.

It revealed further that it has formally requested the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to conduct independent and random tests on its meters, both within the laboratory and directly in the field.

“The GSA’s report will form part of ECG’s report to the Honourable Minister,” the statement confirmed, signalling that the final findings will be submitted to the government for review.

It assured the public that it remains committed to “responsive, transparent, and accountable service delivery”, but the success of this effort will largely depend on whether the public views the GSA’s findings as truly independent.
