The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power supply to the Accra Sports Stadium over a GH¢400,000 debt.
The disconnection which was done on Monday by the power distributor, is part of measures of the company to reduce its debt.
This is not the first time the ECG has cut the power supply to the stadium, as a similar incident occurred in March 2022.
This becomes a big blow to authorities of the facility, as they prepare the grounds to host Friday’s Paris 2024 Olympic football qualifying game between the Black Queens of Ghana and Zambia’s Women’s national team.
The development puts the National Sports Authority (NSA) under more scrutiny, as they have recently been under public criticism for their inability to maintain Ghana’s stadiums.
Other stadiums including the Tamale Sports Stadium, have also experienced a similar fate in 2023, due to debt owed to the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
The Stadium, which is under maintenance, is also expected to host the 2023 All African Games, which will begin on March 8, 2024.
