Samuel Dubik Mahama, Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has officially resigned from his position.
In a resignation letter addressed to the ECG Board Chairman, Mahama cited personal reasons for his decision to step down, effective two weeks from the date of the letter.
In his statement, Mahama expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead ECG over the past two years and four months, noting that the decision to resign was a difficult one made after much reflection.
“It is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons,” he wrote, adding his thanks to the Board and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for their support during his tenure.
Mahama’s resignation has taken many by surprise, as he had only been in the role since his appointment by President Akufo-Addo on May 16, 2022. While the news has sparked speculation within Ghana’s energy sector, no official comments have been made by ECG or government sources regarding the specific circumstances behind his departure.
Prior to his role as Managing Director, Mahama served as a non-executive director at ECG. His career spans both the private and public sectors, including positions as non-executive director at GIHOC Distilleries, country representative for Gulfsouth Forest Products, and partner at Dubik & Associates and Wilkins Engineering. Mahama is also a legal practitioner and a graduate of the University of Ghana.
