The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) released an outage plan today, Friday, March 31, 2023, to inform customers of power outages for the next few days.
This is a result of the shutdown of the Ghana Gas processing plant at Atuabo in the Western region for maintenance work.
In an earlier release, the Energy Ministry indicated that in order to manage the impact the shutdown would have on consumers, the government of Ghana is procuring additional gas from Nigeria to complement the available domestic gas for power generation.
The Ministry also added that, in effect, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will release a timetable for power outages in some areas.
In a joint statement from GRIDCo and ECG, the load shedding [Dumsor] timetable released on Friday, March 31, 2023.
The joint statement also states that there will be approximately 150 megawatts of power generation shortfall which is expected to reduce total power supply distribution by ECG until Friday, April 7, 2023.
