A 3-day ECOWAS Updated Energy Policy Validation Workshop opened yesterday in Accra at the Mensvic Grand Hotel.
Opening the workshop on behalf of Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Deputy Energy Minister, Mr Andrew Mercer said the energy sector is crucial to socio-economic development in every country.
He said embedded in its indispensable nature, is the real potential the sector has to drive massive development, attract investment and create jobs in countries within the West African sub-region.
To this end, Hon Mercer called for a collaborative and concerted approach to dealing with energy-related matters that cannot be overemphasized.
The Sekondi legislator said the advantage of regional collaborative exercises like the workshop, is the opportunity to leverage on the national experiences of member states in mapping out an effective and beneficial road map for all.
“Accordingly, both past and existing municipal policies, plans and strategies may prove insightful during deliberations in the course of this Workshop” he added.
“The independent efforts of member states are necessary to have a common regional energy policy that will define the vision for the Community and the actions to be undertaken to overcome the challenges toward a regional sustainable energy development,” he remarked
The 3-day workshop is expected to end on Friday.
