President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians to unite in ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to the tools and opportunities needed to achieve their potential and contribute to building a prosperous Ghana.
Speaking to professional groups in Kumasi ahead of his three-day tour of the Ashanti Region, the President outlined government’s investments in education, aimed at enhancing the region’s human resource capabilities.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the completion of 524 basic education infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region. These include modern classrooms to reduce overcrowding and ensure equitable access to quality education in both rural and urban areas.
In senior high schools, 118 classroom blocks and 102 dormitory blocks have been completed, including a 12-unit classroom block at Konongo Odumase SHS and an 8-unit dormitory block at Asare Bediako SHS.
The President also emphasized investments in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, citing new STEM schools in Dabaa and Kwadaso equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and digital learning spaces. Additionally, five vocational Centres of Excellence, including facilities for renewable energy, food processing, and garment tailoring, have been established to prepare students for industry-relevant careers.
“These efforts will bridge the gap between academia and industry, foster innovation, and equip students with skills for entrepreneurship,” President Akufo-Addo said.
The event brought together members of professional groups such as the Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Medical Association, Ghana National Association of Teachers, and others to discuss development issues in the region.
President Akufo-Addo’s tour will continue with visits to key project sites and interactions with local communities.
