Effutu Municipality is grappling with a worsening cholera outbreak, prompting the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to seek urgent intervention from the Ministry of Health.

In a letter addressed to Health Minister Kwabena Minta Akandoh, the Minority Leader in Parliament highlighted the mounting pressure on local health facilities and personnel.

He emphasized the critical need for financial assistance to support operational expenses, including fuel, sanitation efforts, medical supplies, and logistical aid for public health education and awareness campaigns.

As of now, the municipality has recorded over 400 suspected cases, with the death toll rising from two to three as of Monday, February 10, 2025.

Fishing communities along the coastal stretch have been the hardest hit, though cases are now emerging in other parts of the municipality, raising concerns about further spread.

Local health authorities are intensifying efforts to contain the outbreak, but with resources stretched thin, Afenyo-Markin’s call for swift government intervention underscores the urgency of the situation.
