The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ekumfi, Ismael Nana Asamoah, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with contractors whose projects are experiencing delays.
He has issued a clear warning that contracts will be terminated if these delays persist. This decisive action aims to ensure the timely completion of developmental projects within the Ekumfi District.
Speaking on Central Coastal fm Mankessim, he said the Projects in the Ekumfi district have faced challenges with timely completion in the past. For instance, a Community Day Senior High School project was noted as abandoned in September 2019, and other projects have also encountered issues .
The Auditor-General’s reports have often highlighted that project delays can lead to increased costs, negatively impacting other developmental initiatives.
The DCE is committed to accelerating infrastructural development in Ekumfi. He has been involved in inspecting key projects, such as road resurfacing initiatives, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament .
He has urged Assembly Members to put aside political differences and work collaboratively towards the development of Ekumfi, emphasizing the need to explore opportunities that bring in resources and create jobs .
The DCE has promised to prioritize infrastructural development, including roads and public amenities, and to foster a favorable business environment to attract investors .
The government has a policy of terminating contracts for projects that experience significant delays. The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, has stated that contracts for Agenda 111 projects will be terminated if they are not progressing well, especially after mobilization funds have been disbursed .
Similarly, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah, has warned that contractors on the Ghana Secondary City Support Program will face contract termination if they fail to meet deadlines .
DCE Ismael Nana Asamoah’s firm stance on project delays reflects a broader governmental approach to ensure accountability and timely delivery of development projects. The threat of contract termination serves as a strong incentive for contractors to adhere to project timelines and contribute effectively to the growth of the Ekumfi District.
