A couple in their late 80s tragically drowned in Abokobi-Nyamekrom following a severe downpour on Wednesday afternoon.
Seth Kofi Osei Kissi, the Ga East Municipal NADMO Director, attributed the incident to improper planning that led to flooding during the heavy rains.
The NADMO team, along with the Ghana National Fire Service rescue team, is currently at the site attempting to retrieve the couple.
Additionally, parts of Accra experienced severe flooding on Wednesday, May 22, causing widespread disruption.
The intense downpour and strong winds severely affected areas like Teshie, where two young men narrowly escaped death after the roof of a building under construction collapsed, trapping them briefly before midday.
The rains also caused significant traffic congestion along major routes such as the Kaneshie to Mallam stretch of the Kasoa Highway, the Central Business District, and Odawna.
