The Ghana Police Service has arrested 12 individuals suspected of looting and causing destruction to public properties across various parts of the country.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing held at the National Police Headquarters, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs, revealed that preliminary investigations identified the suspects as being involved in multiple attacks on state properties.
Among the incidents cited was the arson attack on the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damongo, Savannah Region. Other reported crimes included the destruction of residences of District Chief Executives (DCEs) and the vandalism of collation centers.
In a separate case in Tamale, Northern Region, some of the suspects allegedly broke into the School Feeding Project Warehouse and made away with food supplies. Footage of the attacks has been retrieved and is being reviewed by investigators.
The police have intensified efforts to apprehend additional culprits linked to these crimes, promising to bring all responsible parties to justice.
“The Ghana Police Service assures the public that law enforcement officers have been deployed strategically to critical areas to maintain peace and security. Patrols have also been increased,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi stated.
Citizens have been urged to remain calm as investigations proceed. Authorities also encouraged anyone with relevant information to assist the police in their efforts to restore order and protect public assets.
