Former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, says she feels vindicated by the recent report by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak on the 2024 Kasoa election shooting incident, which she believes clears her of any wrongdoing after enduring years of harsh public criticism.
The minister’s report concluded that the violence during the 2024 elections at Kasoa was due to security lapses and institutional failures, not the direct actions or influence of any political figure.
According to the findings, Philis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, now MP for the constituency, confirmed that her convoy was never attacked and that she was not present at the scene during the chaos.
In her reaction on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Hawa Koomson said she had always maintained her innocence, stressing that the tragedy stemmed from systemic failures in election security, not personal misconduct.
“For years, I was unjustly labeled violent and reckless. The Interior Minister’s findings have finally vindicated me,” she said.
She described the ordeal as one of the most painful chapters of her public life, recalling how the false narratives damaged her reputation and political career.
Madam Koomson expressed sympathy to the victims and families affected by election violence and called for the full implementation of the report’s recommendations — including compensation, better police training, and the end of military involvement in election duties.
She urged the media, politicians, and institutions to embrace responsibility and truth in public discourse, adding that Ghana’s democracy can only thrive through honesty and unity.
“This is not the time for blame, but for introspection and justice,” she concluded.
