In a dramatic confrontation caught on video and now trending on social media, two military officers and two civilians were seen engaging in a physical altercation that disrupted voting activities in Obuasi.
The encounter began as a verbal exchange but quickly escalated into a fistfight. Witnesses reported that the soldiers, who were armed, struck one of the civilians on the chest. The civilian retaliated, and with the support of another civilian, attempted to seize the firearm from the officers.
The situation became more volatile when one of the military officers fired two warning shots, causing panic and discouraging voters from casting their ballots.
According to a report from TV3, the altercation began when the civilian, identified as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer for the Obuasi East constituency, questioned the soldiers’ presence in the inner perimeter of the voting area.
His attempt to block their movement led to a heated argument, which eventually turned physical.
The Ghana Police Service has yet to launch a full investigation into the incident, but the video has raised questions about security and conduct at voting centers.
Observers have called for a swift response to prevent further voter intimidation and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
