The Electoral Commission (EC) has distributed the Certified Voters Register to all registered political parties and independent presidential candidates, marking a crucial step in the lead-up to the December 2024 elections.
In accordance with Sub-Regulation 4 of Regulation 27 of Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) 91, the EC provided the parties with digital copies of the register on Wednesday.
Each political party received an external hard drive containing comprehensive voter information, including the Valid Voters Register, Exceptions List, Multiples List, Transferred Voters List, Absent Voters List, Manual Verification List, Proxy Voters List, and Special Voters List.
During the distribution meeting, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) requested a regional summary of the lists. Although not legally required to provide such data, the EC responded to the request, agreeing to generate and send the breakdowns as a gesture of transparency and accountability. The parties agreed to wait for the summaries to be prepared and delivered electronically.
The EC noted that this release aligns with its tradition since 1992 of sharing only digital versions of the Certified Voters Register without additional statistics. However, this year, the Commission went beyond its obligations to meet the NDC’s request for further detail.
In keeping with a commitment made at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 15, 2024, the EC fulfilled its promise to release the Certified Voters Register within the first week of November.
The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring a “robust and credible” voters register, urging public support for a free, fair, transparent, and credible election process inE December.
