Electoral Commission to hold Ejisu by-election on April 30

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled Tuesday, April 30, 2024, for the by-election in Ejisu constituency following the demise of their Member of Parliament, John Kumah.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled Tuesday, April 30, 2024, for the by-election in Ejisu constituency following the demise of their Member of Parliament, John Kumah.

Dr. John Kumah who was also the Deputy Finance Minister died on March 7, 2024, after a short illness.

Per the 1992 Constitution, the Electoral Commission upon official communication from the Parliament of Ghana is mandated to hold a by-election to elect a candidate to represent the people of Ejisu.

So far Nine (9) aspirants have been cleared by the New Patriotic Party’s vetting committee to contest in the party’s primary in the constituency which is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024.

As it stands, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political parties are yet to express interest in the by-elections.

However, the nine NPP aspirants are currently campaigning to convince delegates to vote for them come Saturday, April 13.

Dr. John Kumah died aged 45 and left behind a wife and six children.
