Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, and her Deputy, Hon. Moses Anim, on Tuesday, August 3 2021, met with the leadership of Elmina fishing community.

Issues discussed centered on the expansion of Closed Fishing Season as a result of their unwillingness to refrain from illegal fishing activities.

The leadership pleaded with the Minister to pardon their recalcitrant behavior while pledging to desist from all illegal fishing activities.

It could be recalled that the sector Minister extended closed fishing Season for fishers in Elmina as a form of punishment for them upon their refusal to desist from illegal fishing activities while the Minister was presenting closed fishing Season relief food items to fishers across the four coastal community, which Elmina boycotted because they were warned from practicing illegal fishing.

The minister who earlier indicated that, the fishermen will also be refused premix fuel as well as other fishing logistics which will be of great help to them until they are willing to comply with the directives set out to deal with illegal fishing said the ministry will reconsider the decision.
