The Ghana Police Service has arrested Kelvin Aboagye, the General Manager of Elmina Sharks, in connection with an attack on a referee following a Division One football match.
The incident occurred on February 16, 2025, at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina, Central Region, after a heated game between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks.
According to police reports, Aboagye, along with other unidentified individuals, allegedly assaulted the referee and some supporters at the end of the match.
The violent altercation has raised concerns about security and discipline in Ghana’s football leagues.
The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend all other individuals involved in the attack.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the act face justice, emphasizing the need for discipline and respect for match officials in football.
