The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has held a productive engagement with the AKSA team and key stakeholders in Ghana’s energy sector on the development of a 900-megawatt (MW) Combined Cycle Power Plant in Takoradi.
The project, which is expected to significantly boost Ghana’s electricity generation capacity, is currently scheduled for completion in December 2027 and will add 900MW to the national grid upon completion.
During the meeting, Dr. Jinapor urged the AKSA team to accelerate implementation efforts and explore measures to bring forward the completion date to September 2027, three months ahead of schedule.
The Minister emphasized the strategic importance of the project in strengthening Ghana’s energy security, supporting industrial growth, and meeting the country’s increasing electricity demand.
According to Dr. Jinapor, the successful execution of the power plant will be a major milestone in Ghana’s energy transition agenda and contribute significantly to ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for businesses and households.
He expressed confidence in the project team and stakeholders and said he looks forward to seeing steady progress and the timely delivery of the critical energy infrastructure.
