The Dansoman Circuit Court is set to hear the case of The Republic versus Togo Desire Nelson, a 35-year-old engineer accused of defrauding a teacher of GH¢75,000.00 under the pretense of purchasing an unregistered KIA Sportage vehicle.
Initially scheduled for January 15, 2025, the case was postponed to February 12, 2025, after the accused failed to appear before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul.
According to the prosecution, Dennis Atsu Dake, a teacher residing in Regimanuel, Tema, sought the services of Nelson, who deals in vehicles and resides in Sowutuom, Accra.
On January 31, 2024, Nelson allegedly collected GH¢75,000.00 from the complainant, promising to secure a KIA Sportage 4×4 vehicle from Togo. Despite receiving the money, the accused failed to deliver the vehicle or refund the amount. After numerous failed attempts to retrieve his money, Dake filed a petition with the Accra Regional Crime Office on November 14, 2024.
Investigations revealed that Nelson admitted collecting the money, claiming he had paid it to a Lebanese car dealer in Togo, who subsequently disappeared. Following the investigation, police charged him with fraud.
The court will take Nelson’s plea on February 12, 2025, and proceed with the trial to establish his guilt or innocence. If convicted, he could face severe legal consequences.
