The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed the successful completion of a critical infrastructure upgrade by ENI Ghana, aimed at enhancing the country’s gas supply capacity.
The project has increased gas output from 245 million to 270 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), marking a notable improvement in the availability of natural gas for power generation.
This upgrade was carried out as scheduled on Sunday, July 13, 2025, following an earlier announcement by the Ministry on July 9. The maintenance and expansion work forms part of Ghana’s broader energy security agenda and was designed to reinforce the reliability of gas supply to the national grid and thermal power plants.
The Ministry described the upgrade as a significant advancement in efforts to ensure energy stability across the country. With the increased volume of natural gas now available, energy producers are expected to operate more efficiently, ultimately leading to improved power supply to homes, businesses, and essential services.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 14, the Ministry highlighted the importance of the development, stating that the increased capacity is a strategic boost to the energy sector and a contributor to the country’s overall economic performance. The added gas flow is expected to reduce dependency on imported fuel sources and enhance cost-effectiveness in electricity production.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to ENI and other stakeholders within the power sector whose expertise and coordination made the upgrade a success.
It also acknowledged the patience and cooperation of the Ghanaian public throughout the maintenance period, noting that such support was vital to the project’s timely completion.
The Ministry further reiterated its continued commitment to building a robust, resilient, and consistent energy supply system that meets the needs of all Ghanaians.
