Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey has admonished members of the Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) for the Accra Metropolis to ensure equity in the distribution of premix fuel to fishermen to prevent hoarding and reselling.

This according to her was to forestall artificial shortages and the sale of the commodity at exorbitant prices.

The first female Mayor of Accra, said this when 8 Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) were inaugurated on Wednesday, at the AMA to oversee the sale of premix fuel in the Accra Metropolis.

She also urged the newly inaugurated members of the LBCs to be accountable and innovative in the utilization of funds from the sale of premix fuel for community development.

Chairman of the National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC) who inaugurated the committees cautioned members not to politicise the distribution of the premix fuel and to stay away from hoarding.

He disclosed that a task force from the NPFC would begin monitoring activities at the pump stations in September.

He also explained that 47% of the profit made from the sale of the premix was to be shared among the committee members in the following percentages: 12% for the chairman, 18% for the remaining four committee members, and 10% and 7% for the secretary and pump attendant respectively adding that the remaining 53% was to be allocated for developmental projects which would be undertaken in consultation with the community members and with the approval of the Mayor of Accra.

Members of the committee per Regulation of the National Premix Fuel Committee Regulations, 2016 (L. I. 2233), include the Chief Fisherman as Chairman and a representative of Canoe Owners, Fish Mongers, the Assembly, and a Fisherman nominated by the Ministry in consultation with the District Assembly.
