EOCO Boss, 4 other Police Officers support victims of abuse

The Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo- Danquah and four other Senior Police Officers have jointly donated groceries and an amount of twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS20,000) to the Ark Foundation in commemoration of their birthday in Accra on Friday.

The Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo- Danquah and four other Senior Police Officers have jointly donated groceries and an amount of twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS20,000) to the Ark Foundation in commemoration of their birthday in Accra on Friday.

The other four celebrants are the Director-General of Information Communication Technology (ICT) Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Vance Gariba, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) (Rtd) Edem Hiadzi of Lister Hospital, Chief Superintendent of Police, Dr Alex Ackon, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Superintendent Dr Adowa Nuo- Panin, Psychologist both at the Police Hospital.

Presenting the items, COP Addo-Danquah emphasized the need for the public to support the foundation to help the convalescence of all victims of abuse.

The items include beverages, bags of rice, boxes of spaghetti, packets of bottled water, gallons of liquid soap, drinks, toiletries, flip-flops, and packets of toilet-roll.

COP Addo-Danquah appealed to the general public to support victims of abuse to ensure their well-being and reintegration into society.

She noted that as officers celebrating their birthdays, they came together to support the vulnerable in society.

“The presentation will strengthen the existing partnerships between the institutions in the discharge of their duties,” she said.

COP Addo-Danquah commended the management and staff of the foundation for their dedication in ensuring the rights of victims of abuse are protected and assured management ceaseless support to help them achieve their goals.

The Director-General of ICT, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Vance Gariba said, they felt the need to give back to the society since they already had an existing relationship with The Ark Foundation.

He stated that instead of they spending their money in a way that will not yield any benefit, they should rather use that money to come and support the foundation.

On the part of the Executive Director of the foundation, Dr Angela Dwamena in receiving the items noted that the foundation was established in 1999 with the target on domestic violence and child abuse.

“Victims including men, women, and children who were physically and sexually abused are provided rehabilitation, restoration and re-integration,” she said.

Additionally, Dr Dwamena Aboagye noted that the foundation has been part of policy initiatives that has to do with women and children in this country, train institutions in prevention and response to gender-based violence, child abuse and public sensitisation in communities.

She continued that, some of them come there with their needs ranging from flip-flop to job seeking and they get cases of incest, girls carrying pregnancies of their own fathers.

Dr Dwamena Aboagye commended the officers for their symbolic gesture noting that, the items would support the foundation in the upkeep of victims at the shelter homes.
