The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in collaboration with Engage Now Africa (ENA) and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, recently conducted an awareness program at Asesewa Senior High School in the Eastern Region, focusing on the prevention of human trafficking.
The sensitization event educated students on the dangers of human trafficking, tactics used by traffickers to exploit vulnerable individuals, and preventive measures to protect themselves and their community.
S.O. Dominic Mensah, head of EOCO’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, highlighted the organization’s commitment to equipping young people with essential knowledge.
“This program effectively raised awareness about human trafficking among students, empowering them to recognize and respond to potential trafficking situations through the 4Ps framework: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership,” he stated.
Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, DSP William Ayariga, elaborated on the 4Ps, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in fighting human trafficking.
He noted that Engage Now Africa and the Ghana Police Service plan to conduct further workshops and community outreach to sustain and expand anti-trafficking efforts in the region.
In a panel discussion, Madam Lydia Ohenewa of Engage Now Africa reaffirmed the NGO’s commitment to supporting survivors through counseling, education, and skills training.
She stressed that Engage Now Africa prioritizes youth empowerment and collaboration, aligning with its mission to combat human trafficking.
This initiative represents an ongoing partnership aimed at fostering community resilience against trafficking and empowering young people as advocates for prevention and protection in their communities.
