The Executive Director of EOCO led a nineteen-member team to pay working visits to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
While on the visit, the team met with the Director in charge of Legal and Prosecution, Mr. Hassan H. Tahir who stood in for the Chief Executive Officer, Acting Director in charge of investigation and monitoring, Mr Daniel Atokolo and other directors.
The Head of Legal and Prosecution at NAPTIP and his team gave a brief presentation about the mandate of the office and their various Units.
In an opening remark, Mr Tahir said that, the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2003 created the Agency on the 14th of July 2003.
This was an outcome of a private bill sponsored at the National Assembly by Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF).
He again added that NAPTIP was under the obligation to protect all persons against human trafficking and violence and to provide psychosocial support to survivors of human trafficking among others.
Speaking during the visit, the Executive Director COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah thanked NAPTIP for the warm reception.
She recalled her first encounter with NAPTIP as Director of CID and subsequently, now, as the Executive Director of EOCO.
She mentioned that, since her appointment, EOCO has been collaborating with NAPTIP on issues of human trafficking.
She also mentioned that these collaborations have strengthened the commitment of both countries to help combat crime by continuing to provide support to each other when necessary.
She added that, EOCO has collaborated with NAPTIP on countless occasions, and it is only proper to put faces to the names whilst (visiting the EFCC) in Nigeria.
She recounted the support her team received on arrival and how Nigeria felt like a second home.
She stated that, when it comes to crime fighting, EOCO collaborates with various international bodies in order to help with enhanced capacity building to fight these crimes. In her concluding remarks, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah said she is confident that EOCO would make meaningful progress through the visit.
