Officials from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have reportedly raided the residence of former Managing Director of the GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, in Kumasi.
The incident is said to have occurred at his home in Atonsu in the Ashanti Region. According to Paul Yandoh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Director of Communications, EOCO operatives carried out the operation in Mr. Jumah’s absence.
“They arrived when Hon. Kofi Jumah was not at home, broke into his room and took away some of his belongings,” Mr. Yandoh alleged.
EOCO has yet to officially comment on the operation or confirm items retrieved during the raid.
Background to Investigation
Mr. Jumah, a former appointee under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, served as Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, a state-owned enterprise, for several years.
His tenure has come under scrutiny in recent times as part of broader government efforts to investigate alleged financial irregularities and procurement breaches in state-owned enterprises.
Reports have suggested concerns over contract awards, asset management, and the financial performance of GIHOC during his leadership, although no formal charges have been publicly confirmed.
The investigation forms part of ongoing anti-corruption measures being undertaken by state agencies to promote accountability and transparency in public institutions.
The reported raid has sparked political reactions, with some party members calling for transparency in the investigation process. Others have urged EOCO to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the operation.
