EOCO retrieves 37 stolen cars from USA and Canada

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in a joint operation with other law enforcement agencies on Friday, December 9th, 2022 has retrieved thirty-seven (37) suspected stolen vehicles from the USA and Canada in Accra.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in a joint operation with other law enforcement agencies on Friday, December 9th, 2022 has retrieved thirty-seven (37) suspected stolen vehicles from the USA and Canada in Accra.

The Deputy Director in Charge of Operations at the Economic and Organized Crime( EOCO), Nana Antwi in an interview stated that intelligence has revealed that there are 128 suspected stolen vehicles in Ghana.

“A request from the USA And Canada to help trace vehicle that they alleged stolen from their country,” he said.

He disclosed that the exercise took place at six(6) locations within Accra namely; Movenpick Hotel, North Kaneshie, Dzorwulu Dimples Area, Dzorwulu Roundabout the Fiesta Royale Hotel, Trinity Theological Seminary Area, and East Legon Galaxy International School Area.

Some of these suspected vehicles retrieved from the dealer include BMW X7, LNDR Range Rover, Mercedes Benz, Honda, Audi, Jeep, Ford and Lexus.

These suspected stolen vehicles cost billions of dollars and he said such practices give the country a bad name.

The Deputy Director in charge of Operations at EOCO, Nana Antwi has urged the general public to do due diligence by checking with the DVLA and Interpol before purchasing a vehicle from a dealer.

“List will be sent to DVLA and Interpol for verification before purchasing,” he said.

The Deputy Director in charge of Operations EOCO, Nana Antwi also urged all persons involved to being evidence showing that the vehicles are not stolen but were bought.
