A three-member delegation from the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB) and the West African Bankers’ Association (WABA) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra, led by GAB’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. John Awuah.

The delegation included WABA’s Secretary General, Alhaji Jeng, and GAB’s Research Manager, Lawrence Sackey.

Hosted by EOCO’s Executive Director, Commissioner of Police Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership between EOCO and West African banking bodies in tackling economic and organized crime across borders.

Following a presentation on EOCO’s mandate by Ms. Sedina Gbeve from the Legal and Prosecution Unit, Ms. Addo-Danquah underscored the significance of international partnerships in combating transnational organized crime.

“Economic and organized crime transcends borders, making it crucial to collaborate with allies worldwide,” she emphasized.

She also highlighted EOCO’s provision of specialized training to institutions seeking expertise in targeted areas.

Mr. Awuah commended EOCO for its ongoing cooperation with the GAB and expressed appreciation for the fruitful partnership.

The discussion included strategies for combating cross-border crime and exploring future collaboration opportunities for enhanced knowledge sharing and capacity building.
