The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is urging all Ghanaians to take proactive measures in fire prevention by equipping their homes with fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
Speaking with Lawson TV/Radio, the Ashanti Regional Fire Service Commander, ACFOII Teteh, highlighted the importance of fire safety education and preparedness. He stressed that while many people purchase fire extinguishers, some lack the knowledge to use them effectively, underscoring the need for public education on fire prevention.
Despite efforts to enhance fire safety, the Fire Service faces significant challenges. Out of the 43 districts in the Ashanti Region, only 26 have fire stations, limiting response capabilities in certain areas. Additionally, as of yesterday, only 18 fire tenders in the region were operational, with 10 others out of service due to maintenance issues.
ACFOII Teteh acknowledged these resource constraints but assured the public of the GNFS’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
“We may have limited resources, but that will not stop us from working hard to protect lives and property,” he stated.
The GNFS continues to advocate for improved fire safety awareness and urges the public to take personal responsibility by adopting preventive measures in their homes.
