Ace broadcast journalist and General Manager of Citi FM/TV, Mr Bernard Avle, has charged churches to do all they can to train and resource their media ministries to create more Christian-based content to advance the Kingdom of God.
Speaking at the 2nd All Ministers Conference, the biggest non-denominational gathering of Ghanaian pastors, at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC) on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, Mr Avle averted that the media is a powerful tool churches can explore to propagate the gospel seamlessly and to shape the moral vision of Ghana.
Mr Avle, who passionately spoke about “Moral Vision and National Development- the Role of Christian Media,” indicated that for the Church to harness the full potential of the media, they should intentionally invest in it.
He called on journalists to be God-fearing to pursue God’s agenda through the media while urging media owners to surrender to Christ and allow God to lead them in managing their media houses.
“The media is a double-edged sword that must be approached with consecration,” he pointed out.
According to him, journalists are not only news reporters but also historical summaries.
“For every move of God, whether it has been trade, business or religion, the media has been at the forefront,” he posited.
He maintained that today’s media is more commanding than some centuries ago, describing it as a shaper and sharpener tool that must clutch the chance to shape the nation by doing media without corruption.
He stressed that for the media to play an integral part in shaping the country’s moral vision and national development, it must align itself with the principles and values of Christ.
“The real question for Ghana is how to unite to drive the ‘Ghana agenda’ imbibed with Kingdom values. The Church cannot afford to miss out,” he said.
He added: “Many of the advanced nations we look up to today were built on the Kingdom principles, which have kept the values but rejected the Person of Christ, and they make it look as if our faith is the problem with us.”
Mr Avle consequently charged the media to do politics the Jesus way to bring the desired transformation the citizenry seeks.
He concluded by urging the church to take a central position in training its media personnel to enable them to invade the airwaves with precisely what the ministers of God preach to avoid unbelievers publishing a distorted version while appealing to the clergy to pray for God to raise broadcasters of integrity.
