Francis Owusu, a 35-year-old former footballer in Asuom, has lost his life after allegedly being abducted and held for three days.

The incident reportedly occurred in Ashaiman, where Yaw Owusu was allegedly and forcefully taken under undue circumstances.

The sister of the deceased, Maa Abena in narration of the incident said “I was here on Saturday and a number called me. It was lady, she she lives with Owusu Francis, my brother. She said my brother told her he was going to work and hasn’t returned since. I asked her to let me reach him and return to her. I quickly told my other siblings and we began calling. We called three times and got through with the four one. Someone answered and I asked to speak with my brother, the person then told me I can’t speak with him and that he has been kidnapped and he needs ¢60,000 or they will Kill my brother. I thought it was one of those Mobile money fraudsters so I jokingly told him we won’t get that money so he should kill him. So he hanged up and shutdown the phone. A day later, at about 1pm in the afternoon, one of my sister’s called and requested that I send her our brother’s pictures which I did. A minute later she called and said our brother has been killed and dumped in a building“,

The Asuom community and sports circles are reeling from his untimely death, having held him in high esteem for his outstanding contributions to the field, both on and off.

Family, former teammates and Friends are mourning the passing of their brother and advocating for justice and a detailed probe into the incident. The police are yet to officially make a statement on the issue.
