The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned that heavy rains and strong winds are expected throughout May.

Vincent Antwi Asante, a meteorologist with GMet disclosed during an interview with Asaase radio’s Benjamin Offei-Addo on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

“In this month of May, we are going to experience intense rain that will be accompanied by strong winds, what we are going to observe from now is more of these rain storms… It will be coming from either Nigeria or Togo and it will be drifted into our country. Sometimes we are going to have some of them developing here and drifting to other parts of the country. So these are some of the rainfalls that we are going to be observing”, he said.

Mr. Asante highlighted that, in June, heavy rainfall and stronger wind will reduce even though there will be wind.

“And as we have said, it is going to be a bit intense. It will be accompanied by strong winds, especially in this month of May. When we get to June, it will minimise a bit but that is not to say that it will not be windy,” he added.

This declaration comes after, some parts of Accra got flooded while several trees fell on about ten stationary vehicles at different locations resulting in the injury of two people who are currently receiving treatment after Monday, May 6 downpour.
