One more body has been retrieved early Thursday morning at Faana-Bortianor in the Weija Gbawe Municipality in Accra, following long hours of search, after a boat carrying schoolchildren capsized.

One more body has been retrieved early Thursday morning at Faana-Bortianor in the Weija Gbawe Municipality in Accra, following long hours of search, after a boat carrying schoolchildren capsized.

At around 5 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2023, a boat carrying twelve school children, who are believed to be between the ages of 1 and 13 capsized, leaving eight dead, one missing and three surviving.

Meanwhile, the missing person has been found dead, taking the death toll to nine.

According to Clement Agyi, the Assemblyman for the McCarthy South electoral area, the incident occurred when the children were returning home from school.

Sources say the boat carrying the children capsized as a result of the spillage from the Weija Dam.
