Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated his commitment to running an open-door government, promising equal and unfettered access to all faith-based organizations if elected as president.
He made this pledge during a courtesy call on the Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev. Mathew Kwesi Gyamfi, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of classifying the church and other faith-based organizations as key partners in national development. His visit, ahead of his campaign in the Bono Region, highlighted his dedication to strengthening the relationship between the government and religious institutions.
Seeking the prayers and spiritual support of the Bishop, Dr. Bawumia stressed the vital role religious institutions, including the Catholic Church, would play in shaping policies and addressing societal issues to foster national unity and development.
The Catholic Bishop expressed deep appreciation for the Vice President’s visit, noting that it was the first time a sitting vice president had called on him.
He praised Dr. Bawumia’s inclusive approach and reaffirmed the church’s commitment to partnering with the government to promote peace, education, and sustainable development in Ghana. Both leaders agreed on the importance of continued collaboration to tackle national challenges and drive holistic development.
