A 26-year-old man has been arrested after posing as a doctor at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

William Cyril Cohen, the alleged impostor, is accused of posing as a doctor of medicine to admit patients and administer medications.

The culprit was apprehended on Monday, September 4, 2023, while attending to a patient who had been admitted to the hospital’s emergency department.

When a senior medical officer arrived, the suspect apparently grew anxious and sought to run. However, the hospital’s security crew stepped in quickly and apprehended the impostor.

A video of the incident has circulated on social media, capturing the suspect dressed in a ward uniform as he is apprehended and escorted by hospital security. Following the apprehension, the hospital has collaborated with the police to launch an investigation into the matter.

This alarming incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of thorough verification and vigilance within healthcare institutions.

Patients and their families entrust their well-being to medical professionals, making it crucial to ensure the authenticity of healthcare providers to maintain the highest standards of care and safety.

The investigation will seek to uncover the full extent of the impersonator’s actions and the potential impact on patient care.

While the motive behind such impersonation remains unclear, the incident highlights the need for robust security measures in healthcare settings to protect both patients and the integrity of medical services.

The case serves as a cautionary tale and underscores the importance of diligence in verifying the qualifications and credentials of individuals working in healthcare roles.
