The late Lawyer Akoto Ampaw was a passionate advocate for good governance, transparency, and accountability. He was dedicated to promoting social justice and inclusive development, and his impact on our country’s legal history will always be remembered.

Fondly called “Che Che,” he was not only a public figure but also a loving father, husband, and brother. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, especially considering his outstanding contribution as a member and leader of many civil society organizations that championed the Right to Information Bill (RTI)”.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin made these comments at a courtesy visit paid to him by the family of the late lawyer at the Parliament House in Accra.

The visit was intended to officially inform the Speaker of his passing and to extend a formal invitation to the Institution of Parliament for the final funeral rites celebration. The event is scheduled for Friday, December 15th, 2023, at the forecourt of the State House.

Mr. Michael Komi Akoto Ampaw, the brother of the late lawyer, led the delegation and expressed his gratitude to Mr. Speaker for his warm hospitality despite the short notice of the visit.

Other members of the family who were present included Princess Fathia Nkrumah (niece) and Bishop Walsmith Lokko (family friend). The final funeral rites celebration is scheduled from Thursday, December 14th, 2023, to Saturday, December 16th, 2023.
