The family of 31-year-old Joseph Karifa, a motor rider from Ekoase in the Birem North District of Ghana’s Eastern Region, is appealing for justice after a horrifying attack that left him with life-threatening injuries.
Joseph suffered severe head trauma and deep cuts to his hands, neck, and chest when a taxi driver, identified as Asomani, allegedly assaulted him with a machete.
The incident occurred last month following a confrontation over reckless driving. Joseph spent six days in a coma at the Ridge Hospital in Accra after being referred from a local health facility.
According to Joseph’s mother, Diana Mameley, the police have taken no action against the suspect, who remains at large.
“It’s heartbreaking to see my son in pain while the person responsible is walking free,” she said.
The family has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, and the Eastern Regional Police Command to take swift action.
Recounting the incident, Joseph explained that the taxi driver swerved into his lane, almost hitting him.
When he confronted the driver about his dangerous actions, the man allegedly pulled out a machete and launched the attack. Joseph is still undergoing treatment as his family awaits justice.
