Police in Agona Bobikuma are on the hunt for a 48-year-old farmer, Stephen Alartey, who is accused of killing his wife and daughter in a brutal attack at Esaase, a village near Agona Bobikuma in the Agona West District of the Central Region.

According to police sources, the shocking incident occurred on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Alartey reportedly lured his wife, Aku Motso, 37, and their three children from their grandmother’s home in Agona Kwaman, asking them to join him at his residence in Esaase.

While en route, Alartey allegedly led the family along an unfamiliar path. In a horrifying turn of events, he used a cement block to fatally strike his wife and their 7-year-old daughter, Ophelia Alartey. A hunter nearby reportedly heard the commotion and rushed to the scene, only to become another victim.

The police source revealed that Alartey initially asked the hunter to guide him to the police station to report the incident but later attacked him with a cement block and a cutlass, leaving the hunter with severe head injuries. Alartey then fled the scene with the hunter’s gun.

Two of Alartey’s children, who witnessed the attack, managed to escape and alerted the authorities. Police have since recovered the bodies of Aku Motso and Ophelia Alartey, which have been sent to the Agona Swedru Municipal Government Hospital for autopsy.

Law enforcement officials are appealing to the public for any information regarding Stephen Alartey’s whereabouts, as the investigation continues.
