The Lawra Circuit Court in the Upper West Region has convicted and sentenced a 47-year-old man, Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu, to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour for incest involving his teenage daughter.
The convict was found guilty of incest and threat of death following a trial presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei.
He received a 20-year jail sentence for incest and a 10-year term for threat of death, with both sentences set to run concurrently.
According to details established by the Lawra District Police during their investigation and prosecution, Ti-Zaaekuu sexually abused his 17-year-old biological daughter, a Junior High School student, over an extended period.
The court heard that the convict subjected the victim to continuous abuse whilst threatening to kill her if she ever revealed his actions to anyone.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide the survivor with comprehensive counselling and psychosocial support services.
Commending the outcome, the Upper West Regional Police Command praised the investigators and prosecutors for their professionalism throughout the case.
In a press release signed by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Francis Yiribaare, the command urged members of the public to report all incidents of sexual and domestic violence to the police promptly for swift legal action.
