The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a recall of Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte (Tetra Pak – 250ml & Canned – 330ml Pétillante) due to safety concerns and regulatory violations.
According to the FDA, the products have been found in the Ghanaian market and advertised on social media without proper registration, making their sale and distribution illegal.
The recall was announced in accordance with the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), specifically sections 97, 98, and 103, which prohibit the sale of unregistered food and beverage products.
The FDA outlined three major reasons for the recall. Firstly, the importer of the product has violated public health regulations. Secondly, the products are not registered with the FDA. Lastly, the packaging and labelling are deceptive and misleading, increasing the risk of accidental alcohol ingestion by children and posing a potential health hazard.
The FDA has advised consumers not to purchase or consume this unregistered product. Retailers and wholesalers must immediately stop the distribution and sale of the beverage. Additionally, all existing stock should be returned to the nearest outlets of Cave and Garden Ghana Limited or any FDA office nationwide.
The FDA assured the public that regulatory measures are being enforced against the importer and urged anyone with information about the sale of these products to report it through the agency’s official communication channels.
